When an abstract or an hypothetical construct is treated as if it were a real event or a physical entity, the abstraction is reified. In other words it is the method of treating something which is not concrete such as an idea as a concrete substitution. A Reified abstraction is intended as a figure of speech and actually understood as such. Reification takes place when natural or social processes are misunderstood or simplified, for instance when human creations are described as facts of nature or results of cosmic laws. It may derive from an inborn tendency to simplify experiences by assuming constancy as much as possible.
